New Aesthetic Technology for Your Practice

As the 2023 Winter Clinical Hawaii Conference continues, Glynis Ablon, MD, FAAD, associate clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and owner of the Ablon Skin Insitute and Research Center in Manhattan Beach, California, shares key points from her presentation “New Devices for Your Practice.”

Transcript:

Glynis Ablon, MD, FAAD: I am Dr. Glynis Ablon. I’m a board-certified dermatologist and associate clinical professor at UCLA dermatology, and I own the Ablon Skin Institute and Research Center in Manhattan Beach, California.

Kaitlyn Bader, Editor: Thank you so much for joining me today, I appreciate your time. With the upcoming Winter Clinical Hawaii conference, I was hoping you could give us three takeaways from your first session, “New Devices for Your Practice.”

Ablon: Advancement and innovation in technology is endless. And I’ll be discussing new technologies in Hawaii and the first one is Ultra Clear. It’s the greatest and newest and fastest in the ablative laser technology. It’s the first fractional coldblative fiber Erbium laser, with rapid treatments, less downtime, and improved tightening, brightening, and evening skin tone. The second one I’m going to discuss is the Emerald which is a low-level laser. It’s FDA-cleared to treat patients with a BMI of 40 plus. And you know, applications of low-level lasers are basically low levels of energy, whether they’re electrical field or ultrasounds or even light for the treatment of diseases or aesthetic enhancement has been met with skepticism. We’re trained to believe that more or stronger is better and no pain, no gain. But we have scientific evidence now that supports the clinical benefit based on the molecular and cellular effects of low-energy devices. So, a noninvasive low-level laser which is what the Emerald is; it emits a 532-nanometer wavelength that gets onto the skin and treats the hypertrophic sites. The treatment emulsifies the adipose tissue and releases the excess fatty materials into the interstitial space. And from there, the fat is passed on through the body and its natural course of detoxification through the lymphatic system. And then you get these great results and no pain. And the final one I just want to mention is the Tixel system; it is a unique non-ablative device for resurfacing of the skin for all Fitzpatrick skin types. Heat is transferred to the skin via a thermo mechanical fractional titanium alloy tip, and it leads to skin tightening and reversal of sun damage.
