Adopt-A-Street

The City of Destin’s Adopt-A-Street Program allows local families, businesses and community groups to perform a valuable community service by adopting sections of a street to keep clear of litter and debris. Groups who participate in this program will have their name listed on the City’s website and signage installed on their adopted street. Summer fireworks

Okaloosa Island continues its series of summer fireworks. The show begins at 9 p.m. every Wednesday through Aug. 10 on the Boardwalk, 1450 Miracle Strip Parkway, Fort Walton Beach. Organizers suggest making it a dinner and a show with a front-row view from any of The Boardwalk’s restaurants, or grab a quick treat and spread out along the beach to watch the fireworks blast off from the pier.

Wine tasting

Toast to the Ladies! Wine and Food Tasting, by Emerald Coast Food and Wine Association, is 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at WaterVue at Brooks Street, 203 Brooks St. SE, Fort Walton Beach. Join us for a night of wine tasting featuring women-owned wines and delicious foods. All Male chefs and staff catering to you. Tickets cost $65 on Eventbrite, https://bit.ly/3Oky8Ud.

Pets adoption

If you're interested in rescuing a pet, Step One Automotive is hosting a monthly adoption event.

Step One Automotive will host a pet adoption event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at Subaru Fort Walton Beach, 916 Beal Pkwy NW, Fort Walton Beach.

Are you looking to add a new furry friend to your family? Do you need a new companion? Well, you are in luck! Subaru and Step One Automotive Group will be hosting an adoption event alongside  Saving with Soul Pet Rescue. Hopefully they can help you find your new best friend! Country music Ritter style

Jessie Ritter will perform soon at Al's Beach Club.

Jessie Ritter will provide live music 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at Al’s Beach Club, 1450 Miracle Strip Pkwy SE, Fort Walton Beach. Shake the sand from your shoes & put some country in your soul at the event. Jessie is a country singer/songwriter from Southeast Missouri. Tips are appreciated at the free show. Water Around Us

The Florida Public Archeology Network, Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance and DFWB Coastal Resources will present information during the Water Around Us Kids Summer Series 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at the Destin History and Fishing Museum, 108 Stahlman Ave, Destin. Cost is $3 for kids age 7 and up, and $5 for adults. Admission is free for younger children. There will be bubbles, hands-on activities and demonstrations.

Purple Monkey concert

Purple Monkey will be performing live in Okaloosa County soon.

Band Purple Monkey will be performing live 6-10 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at LJ Schooners Dockside Restaurant, 290 Yacht Club Drive, Niceville. Purple Monkey is a band out of Northwest Florida. They have been known to play covers and original alternative, blues, funk and rock.

Summer camp

An additional summer camp for children is July 11-15 in Shalimar.

Saneka’s Wildwood Environmental Summer Camp starts July 11 and continues through July 15 at Wildwood Garden Shoppe & Nursery, 6 10th Ave., Shalimar. The event includes various activities for kids ages 8-13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. Cost is $175 per person plus fees on Eventbrite, https://bit.ly/3ultEF9.

Drawing and painting class

Kids attending a painting and drawing class will learn how to bring these flowers to life.

Instructor Corina Zalace will be teaching a two-day class for kids aged 5 to 16 years old this July! The class will be conducted using watercolor, acrylic paint and black pens. There are 6 seats available per session, and each session will be different from the other. to reserve your child’s spot. $27.50 per child attending one class. For 2 or more children attending a class it is $22.50 per child. No previous experience is required, supplies included. Reserve your child’s seat at 850-729-2600. 4-H Cultural day camping

One of the summer camps for children is provided by 4-H in Okaloosa County.

4-H Worldwide Day Camp is 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Rocky Bayou Baptist Church’s Multipurpose Building, 2401 Partin Drive North, Fort Walton Beach. It  is a cultural experience for youth ages 5-7, who will be learning about different cultures, trying new foods, playing games, crafts and more. Moana the movie

Friends of Navarre Library will host a summer movie session featuring PG movie Moana. The group will provide refreshments during the event, which begins 4 p.m. July 12 at the Navarre Library, 8484 James Harvell Road, Navarre. Visit the Facebook page, for more information.

Ninja painting class

The ninja is a topic for an upcoming class at Painting with a Twist.

Painting with a Twist will have a Kids Camp – Choose your Ninja! Event for children ages 8 and up. Hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 13 at Painting with a Twist, 255 Miracle Strip Pkwy SE, Suite B-8 Fort Walton Beach. Jana will be instructor. Attendees will learn some basic art techniques, play games, listen to music and have time for a light snack, which is provided. Cost is $50 per person. Visit or call 850-226-7218 for details.

Oceans of Possibilities Storytimes

Stories of ocean monsters and more will be part of Summer Storytime activities in Destin.

The Destin Library series of Cuddlers and Toddlers storytimes continues every other Thursday and July 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Captain Leonard Destin Park at 101 Calhoun Ave. They are for ages 0-3, but are open to all children. Alternating Thursdays, they are at the Destin Library, 150 Sibert Ave.

The theme for summer reading this year is Oceans of Possibilities, so come hear stories about ocean monsters, ocean wildlife and other aquatic marvels. There will also be fingerplays, stretching and ocean-themed yoga fun. Feel free to bring a blanket or mat to participate.

Kids’ Night Out

Destin Kids’ Night Out is 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at the Destin Community Center at 101 Stahlman Ave. Kids will have a night full of games, crafts, food and lots of fun.

Paint Like an Artist

3rd Planet Brewing’s 2nd Annual Paint Like an Artist Summer Art Series features sip-n-paint style sessions based on a masterpiece.

The final session is 6 p.m. July 18 and features Salvador Dali’s “Perception of a Memory.”

ECTC The Tempest

Emerald Coast Theatre Company’s production of “The Tempest” is a family-friendly comedy performed 8-9 p.m. every Thursday through July 28 at the Grand Park, 495 Grand Blvd., Miramar Beach. Wade through the storm to a magical island filled with scaly fish men, woodland sprites, and a powerful wizard pulling all the strings. Sit in the splash zone and experience the action up close – if you dare!

This show is free and open to the public. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating. In case of rain, “The Tempest” will be performed at Emerald Coast Theatre Company upstairs in the 560 building on Grand Boulevard.

Grand Boulevard Farmers Market

Grand Boulevard Farmers Market takes place every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grand Park in the heart of Grand Boulevard in South Walton. Bring your shopping bag and load up on local produce, eggs, jams and pies. Homemade soap, good olive oil, and pickled things are all there for the taking.

Rosemary Beach Farmers Market

Come browse the 30A Farmers Market in Rosemary Beach on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The local farmers market takes place on Sundays year round, and Thursdays throughout the summer months, in North Barrett Square along Scenic 30A.

Taylor Dayne concert rescheduled

The 10 event

The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation (MKAF) announced that that the concert performance of Taylor Dayne, scheduled for Thursday, May 26, has been rescheduled to a later date because of inclement weather. Due to the impending inclement weather and for safety and logistical reasons (set-up/concert preparations). The concert is postponed until Thursday, Oct. 13. Tickets will automatically transfer to this new date.
