LAKEVILLE – Vitale Park is adding to its story, with an interactive StoryWalk.
The StoryWalk is a collection of 16 separate kiosks placed around Vitale Park that will be used to place individual pages from children’s stories under a weather-proof panel so that the stories may be read by visitors as they stroll along the path.
The new StoryWalk was unveiled by Livonia Public Library during a June 23 ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The first featured story is “Roy Digs Dirt” by David Shannon. Roy is an adorable white dog who is wild about digging, digging, digging in the dirt.
Shannon’s picture books are loved for their endearing characters and laugh-aloud humor, and Roy’s charming naughtiness.
The story walk is a permanent installation. Library staff will rotate the titles out every month.
“We hope that the StoryWalk will bring families with children, parents, caregivers, and others outside to enjoy nature while also connecting them with a love of reading.” said Livonia Library Director Frank Sykes.
The library received a lot of positive feedback from the community during the first week the StoryWalk was available for use.
The StoryWalk was made possible with a grant from the Florence M. Muller Foundation.
The Library Board of Trustees said it would like to acknowledge and give special thanks to the town of Livonia Board members and Highway Department and the Vitale Park staff for supporting the StoryWalk and helping to make it happen.
Vitale Park, 5828 Big Tree Rd., is located off Route 20A in Lakeville at the north end of Conesus Lake. The park is open from 7 a.m. to dusk daily.
The Florence M. Muller Foundation was established to support the philanthropic vision of its founder and namesake.
The foundation promotes the welfare of its community and natural environment through grants that support child well-being, education, health care, and environmental conservation. For more information, go to www.fmmullerfdn.org.
