The National Color Guard Contest will open the 103rd American Legion National Convention in Milwaukee at 4 p.m. on Aug. 26, in the Exhibit Hall, Sections A-B, 3rd Level of the Wisconsin Center. Newport Harbor Post 291 of Newport Beach, Calif., hopes to defend its title as champion. The four classes of competition are Advancing/Retiring Colors, Military, Military-Open and Open; in each class, competing units perform maneuvers with a group of flags, saluting to an area active-duty servicemember. Units can represent any part of the American Legion Family, or have a combination of members.
On Aug. 28, the American Legion National Concert Band Contest will begin at 1 p.m. at the same location in the Wisconsin Center, and includes Concert Band and Exhibition Concert Band classes performing sets of largely symphonic pieces. This event returns after a two-year hiatus.
Both Legion competitions will be live streamed on the American Legion National Headquarters Facebook page.
The Milwaukee Brewers will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates at American Family Field on Monday, Aug. 29, at 7:10 p.m. Tickets for American Legion Family Night range from $9 to $20, and can be purchased online at
